Bullying statistics USA

With workplace bullying on the rise, some US workers may fight the feeling of dread when they face “another day in the office.”  Unfortunately, bullying statistics USA show that this is an issue that desperately needs to be addressed and confronted.

According to bullying statistics USA, 37% of workers in the US report bullying on the job and 49% state they have been witnesses of bullying.  This totals an astounding 86 percent of the US workforce which has been affected.

“Bullying” by definition is any form of repetitive, health harming abuse including (but not limited to) humiliating, threatening and offensive behavior which interferes with work performance.  Bullying statistics USA shows that an estimated 71.5 million US citizens are impacted by workplace bullying.

Approximately one million American workers are absent due to the added daily stress that builds up as a result of bullying.  This stress costs industries in America somewhere in the vicinity of 300 billion dollars per year in staff turnover, insurance expenses and productivity which has been diminished due to the effects of bullying.

As bullying statistics USA become more documented, reportedly an increasing number of workers state they have been subjected to all forms of bullying such as threats, verbal attacks, sabotage, intimidation and humiliation.  These workers would most certainly suffer increased stress as a result of this treatment, causing the potential loss of 111 billion operating dollars each year to American industries.

Research vividly demonstrates that victims of workplace bullying often believe they are being treated disrespectfully.  Half of these will suffer loss of work time due to worry over potential interactions with the bully.  Bullying statistics USA suggests that, additionally, half of these individuals will consider relocating to avoid further confrontations.  A majority will share their concern with loved ones, friends and co-workers which often reflects negatively on the company itself.

Only 25% of American companies surveyed for these statistics report these incidents and in most cases the victim is an employee.  Approximately 10% of the victims are customers and only 7% are supervisors.  Unfortunately, around one-third of these companies don’t change prevention policies and nearly 9% have no policy or procedure for dealing with violence in the workplace.  New anti-bullying laws are being put into effect but many find these laws controversial as they often don’t add any substance to the laws which already exist.
